The Alex Foundation
Site updates

Changelog

A running record of updates and improvements to The Alex Foundation website.

August 2026v1.1

Content updates and self-service tools

A round of content corrections from Dr. Pepperberg, design refinements throughout, and two new tools so the Foundation can keep the site current without a developer.

The birds

  • Athena's page updated to reflect her passing in 2025, with her dates now shown across the site.
  • Alex's page corrected: his death is now correctly attributed to a cardiac arrhythmia.
  • Griffin's profile updated — he now knows his shapes and colors, and is learning the concepts of bigger and smaller.
  • Arthur's page now opens his full story in a pop-up, and his dates were corrected to 1998–2013.
  • Pepper and Franco added as Associate Parrot Researchers, with photographs and biographies.

New self-service tools

  • Staff directory — staff members can now be added, edited, and reordered directly from the site's admin area.
  • Speaking schedule — talks and appearances are entered in the admin area and appear automatically. Each listing opens a pop-up with the time, venue, address, description, and a registration link. Past events drop off the list on their own.

Design refinements

  • Tightened vertical spacing across the homepage, contact page, and news section for a cleaner flow.
  • The mission statement now stands out more clearly on the homepage.
  • Larger news headlines, and a more prominent link through to the blog.
  • Footer link columns brought closer together.

Mobile improvements

  • Fixed the shopping cart icon alignment in the mobile header.
  • Corrected product titles that were wrapping awkwardly on Android devices.
  • Added breathing room to the research and press listings so text no longer runs to the screen edge.
